🎯 Manufacturing Parts That No Longer Exist

The biggest challenge for operators of older vessels is sourcing spare parts for engines and equipment that have been discontinued. Seaway's Custom Production division solves this problem — we engineer and manufacture the part to original specification, faster and more cost-effectively than any alternative.

Based in Istanbul, we leverage Turkey's deep industrial manufacturing base — home to hundreds of precision engineering workshops, foundries, forge shops and specialist marine equipment manufacturers — to produce any part, in any material, to any specification.

Whether you need a single critical part urgently, a batch of consumable items for stock, or a complete set of engine components for a major overhaul — our engineering team manages the entire process from specification through manufacturing, inspection and certification to your door.

Frequently Asked Questions — Custom Production

Common questions about our custom marine parts manufacturing service.

Can you manufacture spare parts for discontinued or obsolete marine engines?

Yes — reverse engineering and manufacturing of obsolete parts is one of our core specialities. Using the original part as a sample (or technical drawings if available), we carry out precise dimensional inspection, material analysis, and reproduce the part in our workshop or through our manufacturing network in Turkey. We have successfully produced parts for out-of-production engines from MAN, Sulzer, Wärtsilä, Mirrlees and many others.

What manufacturing processes do you use for custom marine parts?

We utilise CNC turning, CNC milling, precision boring, grinding, gear cutting, casting (sand, lost-wax and centrifugal), forging, welding and fabrication. For material requirements we work with carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium alloys, copper-nickel, bronze, brass, cast iron and special alloys. All manufactured parts can be subjected to non-destructive testing and third-party inspection.

Can custom-manufactured parts be class certified?

Yes. We can arrange classification society (Lloyd's Register, DNV, ABS, Bureau Veritas, RINA, NK, etc.) survey and certification for custom-manufactured parts where required. This typically involves material test certificates, dimensional inspection reports, NDT reports and a class-approved surveyor attendance at final inspection.

How long does custom part production take?

Lead time depends on part complexity, material availability and current workshop load. Simple turned or milled parts can be ready in 3–7 days. Complex castings, forgings or assemblies typically take 3–6 weeks. For emergency situations we can often expedite production, and we maintain stock of common raw materials to reduce lead times.

Do you provide drawings or 3D models for the parts you produce?

Yes. As part of our reverse engineering service, we can provide full dimensional drawings and 3D CAD models of parts we manufacture. This is particularly valuable for vessel owners who want to build an engineering library of critical components. We can work from original drawings, from physical parts (using CMM or 3D scanning), or develop new designs from scratch to customer specification.
